| appearance Gaara's look is incredibly distinctive; one that would never have you wondering if he was someone else. There is no 'one thing' you would look at first when you see him. Perhaps your eyes will go to the kanji for 'Love' etched in to his forehead. They might land on his eyes first; ice blue framed with permanent thick black- the result of endless sleepless night or maybe his untidy red hair. However, you will notice that he isn't incredibly tall, standing at only 5'3" (160cm). His dress is such that you would know he is an important person just by looking at him. personality As a result of his harsh upbringing Gaara treats the world with equal harshness. Ever since he was a young child he has thought that he can only rely on himself and that killing people was the only way to justify his existence. It is common knowledge in his village that he is incredibly emotionally unstable and will kill without even thinking twice about it. The lives of humans and especially the lives of the people in his village have become even more unimportant after finally claiming the title of Kazekage. Gaara lacks any form of sympathy when it comes to nearly every human he encounters. His siblings, however, have seen other sides to him. As they were the only ones in his entire youth that didn't completely alienate him he has been known to show them mercy and even, at times, a warped sense of kindness. However, this attitude directed towards anyone else is highly unlikely. strengths & abilities As a result of having the demon Shukaku inside of him, Gaara has complete control over sand. Because a natural supply of sand is not always available, Gaara carries around a gourd full of it. He uses this sand in his attacks to grab and crush his opponents. He can also use this sand as a form of defense. When an attack or weapon is thrown at him, the sand will instantly activate and surround him, protecting him from harm. It is rare that anyone makes it past this block but he does have another layer of protection; there is a fine layer of invisible sand that covers his entire body to act as a sort of armor. Gaara can also manifest aspects of the demon Shukaku which possesses him. As he does this, sand begins to cover his body and he takes on the features of a tanuki, becoming a miniature Shukaku. When this happens, Gaara's normal ferocity is magnified and he becomes even more violent and reckless. Gaara can also bring out Shukaku fully if he uses ninjutsu to force himself to fall asleep. This lets Shukaku fight without limitations, and he will continue to fight as long as Gaara remains asleep. weaknesses Gaara's biggest physical weakness is that he's almost totally reliant on the sand that he carries with him. Without that, he doesn't have many physical attacks (short of calling out Shukaku) that could help him win a battle. If he were to be separated from the sand, it would cause quite a problem. Mentally, Gaara is very unstable. Anger and aggression can be triggered by the smallest of things. His moods go through some extreme changes which can sometimes be rather disturbing for those around him. In short, it is clear that there is a break in his mind. weapons The large gourd on his back filled with sand. history Gaara was always destined for a dark life. Before the child was even born his father, the current kazekage, was forced to cut military spending. In order to still maintain a strong military, Gaara's father had the one-tailed demon Shukaku sealed inside of Gaara at birth. The hope was that Gaara would become a tool for the village and keep them strong still. Despite years of training with his father, Gaara never could fully tame the beast Shukaku. Against Gaara's will the demon would attack the people around Gaara which lead to him being feared as a horrible monster and left him alienated from everyone else even though he tried to apologize for such actions. Realizing that his own weapon was backfiring, Gaara's father ordered the assassination of his son. However, Shukaku protected him from being killed and, over the years, would protect him many more times. Once he realized that even his own family had abandoned him, Gaara picked up the belief that he and Shukaku were the only people that he could rely on. Years went by, and Gaara continued to be closed off from other people. very rarely, however, his siblings would speak with them and while it was welcomed it had always felt distant. His hate and distaste for his home village, Sunagakure, only grew with every day he lived. Killing people became a daily thing for him as he had begun to believe that the only way to validate his own existence was to kill everyone else. Then one day, something in his life looked like it might change. Gaara had listened in on a conversation his father had with the leader of the Otogakure very briefly before being pulled away. They wanted to invade Konoha. He believed that his father would surely send him if it were something so important as he was the strongest weapon the Sunagakure had. This, however, was not the case. Gaara's father decided that his son was far to unstable, and didn't believe that anything would stop him from killing everyone, including the people on his side of the battle. So Gaara was left alone once again as he watched his siblings go off to do battle. This only increased the hate and anger he felt towards his father and the entirety of Sunagakure. So Gaara made his decision. It was time to kill his father and take over as Kazekage. When his siblings returned from a defeat at the hands of Konoha, Gaara watched as they were both punished for their mistakes. Seeing such actions from his father only affirmed the plan in his head even more and, when the dust settled, Gaara approached his brother and sister. And kids were so easy to convince of things when they were angry that way. The three of them together one night unleashed their plan to kill their father. However, not yet knowing how to willingly call out Shukaku's great powers, Gaara was unable to defeat his father and his bodyguards and quickly lost the fight. Gaara was locked up on the top floor of a tower located on the outskirts of the town as a result of this in an attempt to prevent such a thing from happening again. His siblings, however, were not locked up despite their aid in the attack. Their father believed that it was only Gaara's influence that could lead his children to do such a thing. While he was alone in that tower Shukaku made his first contact with him. The demon was almost teasing in the way he spoke to Gaara. He tried to convince Gaara to let him out fully and help him. There was still some small part of Gaara that had something that could be called hope. He still thought that maybe, one day, the people of Sunagakure would realize their mistakes or that his father might apologize for trying to kill him. However, after over a year in his solitary confinement, Gaara's hope had nearly completely vanished and, it was the first time in a long time that he allowed himself to sleep. He had finally given in to Shukaku's suggestions and allowed the demon to take over. Now stronger than any forces in the Sunagakure combined, Shukaku broke out of the tower by breaking through the stones it was made of, thought to be entirely impenetrable and headed straight for a specific place; the home of the Kazekage. This time, the attack was successful. Gaara's father, and those directly under him, were slain in a more brutal fashion then had ever been seen by the people of Sunagakure. Gaara woke up as the dust settled to the sound of his own voice cackling madly. It was done. He was Kazekage now and Sunagakure was going to regret what they had done to him. Within the first few months of the assassinations of his father and the other high-ranking officials, Gaara began to put in place all of his changes to the Sunagakure. He completely cut off programs for helping the needy. Any funding of any kind that Gaara deemed unnecessary ended, and the budget for the military increased dramatically. Gaara's intentions were clear; Turn the Sunagakure as a whole in to his own weapon and take over the other villages. However, things wouldn't end up working out that way. On the night before his attack on Konoha, Gaara was ripped from the world by a strange happening.
